“I focus on helping students understand why chemistry works — not simply memorize formulas and reactions.”
My approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and connecting individual topics into a broader understanding of chemistry.I work with students from high school through university — General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and college-level coursework. My goal is to help students develop the skills and confidence to approach unfamiliar chemistry problems independently.
Origin

Why Good Chem Grades

Chemistry has a reputation problem. Most students don't struggle because the subject is out of reach — they struggle because it gets taught as a pile of formulas to hold on to until the exam. I watched that happen through years of coursework, lab work, and helping classmates the night before a test: the same bright students, stuck on the same handful of ideas nobody had slowed down to explain.

Good Chem Grades started as the tutoring I wished those students had. One student at a time, online, with room to ask the question underneath the question — the “but why does that happen?” that a lecture hall doesn't have time for. Sessions move at the pace of understanding, not at the pace of a syllabus.

The name is intentionally plain about the outcome students care about. But the way there is never memorization drills. It's understanding the problem, building the skill, and eventually solving it yourself.
